From 1 October 1999 to 30 September 2000 the WEA received 573 applications for consent to export wheat in bulk, containers and / or bags. Of these, 86% were approved by the WEA. The numbers approved and rejected are shown in the following table:
Of the 494 approved applications, exporters were granted permission to ship the following tonnages to the markets below. Although consents were granted for just under 1.257 million tonnes, WEA research indicates that around 220,000 tonnes were shipped in containers and or bags in the period.
