Meet the Members

WEA consists of a Chair and three members appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry on a part-time basis until 31 December 2012. Appointments must not exceed five years, however members are eligible for re-appointment.

Ted Woodley - Chair

Ted WoodleyMr Woodley has held numerous Board and CEO positions in the rural, energy, water, transport, community care and not-for-profit sectors and has worked with GrainCorp, Australian Bulk Handling Authorities and CSIRO Stored Grains Research Laboratories.
Mr Woodley has extensive experience with companies and industry sectors facing major change. He has degrees in Science and in Engineering (Hons 1), has completed postgraduate management studies and also has a Company Director Diploma.

Nicole Birrell - Member

Nicole BirrellMs Birrell operates a risk management consulting business and is the co-owner of a mixed farming enterprise at Corowa, New South Wales. She has more than 27 years experience in overseas and local corporate and investment banking, most recently as Head of Operational Risk and Compliance for the ANZ Banking Group’s Institutional Financial Services division.
Ms Birrell is currently a Director of Superpartners Pty Ltd, SMS Management and Technology Ltd and Queensland Sugar Ltd and a member of the Programs Advisory Committee for the School of Applied Economics at Victoria University, Melbourne. She is  the chair of WEA’s Audit & Risk Management Committee

Kim Halbert - Member

Mr Halbert is a grain and livestock producer from Three Springs in Western Australia. He currently crops 6,400 hectares of wheat, lupins, barley and canola. He is also a deputy director of the Grains Research and Development Corporation. Mr Halbert spent nine years on the board of Geraldton Port Authority where he was responsible for all rural exports through the port. During this time, he undertook extensive studies of supply chain issues affecting grain flows in Western Australia.
He also spent four years as a Board member of the Grain Licensing Authority in Western Australia which was responsible for the issuing of bulk export licences for barley, lupins and canola from Western Australia.

Sandy Murdoch - Member

Sandy MurdochMr Murdoch has extensive experience associated with the rural sector most recently as CEO of Ridley AgriProducts and earlier in large scale agribusiness enterprises that have largely been export oriented. Positions have included Managing Director of the Australian Dairy Corporation and Metro Meat International and CEO of New Zealand companies Tui Milk Products and the Alliance Group.
Mr Murdoch has significant expertise and standing in international trade and marketing, export market development and primary processing.
